The K'NEX Education Roller Coaster Physics Set is a hands-on experience to help students in grades 11-12 learn how to design and conduct scientific investigations and to select, identify, and control variables. They will also observe and record responses, analyze data, construct graphical representations of result, and mathematically interpret them. This K'NEX Education Set includes 2,058 K'NEX parts, building instructions, and a comprehensive Teacher's Guide, all packaged in three strong plastic trays with snap-on lids for easy classroom storage. There's enough parts to build 11 roller coasters, inclined planes, and loop systems, and supports 6-8 students working in teams. The Teacher's Guide (on CD), used in conjunction with the K'NEX materials, provides the information and resources needed to build students' understanding of scientific concepts and channel their inquiries into active and meaningful learning experiences. It includes nine lab exercises that outline ways in which students may use the set to study physics, and in particular mechanics. The studies adopt a hands-on, student-inquiry based approach in which the teacher is encouraged to develop each lab investigation using the 5E model (Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, and Evaluate) of inquiry while students utilize the Four Question Strategy for experiment design. This set is aligned to STEM standards.
