Linoleum isn't just for kitchen floors, it's the ideal surface to carve into for block printing. Good old fashioned linoleum mounted to wood. It's about half the size of a sheet of paper. These linoleum blocks by Speedball are high quality linoleum double-glued onto a dense particle board. They will not warp, crack, separate or peel. Use oil or water soluble inks. Start by drawing your image onto the block, I use a Sharpie marker. Remember, your image will be reversed, so if you want a gorilla looking to the left draw her facing to the right! Next, you carve away everything that is not drawn in marker using v-gouges and u-gouges. You can clean the marker with alcohol, xylene or other solvent. Now you are ready to apply ink and print!
