What the Winter Said is the third album by composer and pianist Kathryn Kaye. Produced by Will Ackerman, Tom Eaton, and Kathryn, this Winter/Holiday album contains a mix of very old Christmas carols, a piano arrangement of The Bricklayer's Beautiful Daughter by Will Ackerman, and ten new compositions by Kathryn. A classically trained pianist and organist, Kaye's music emphasizes melodies that are often haunting and emotionally evocative, yet restrained. Kathryn is joined by Will (guitar) and Tom (accordion, autoharp, bass), as well as Charlie Bisharat (violin), Eugene Friesen (cello), Richard Gates (bass), Jill Haley (English horn), Jeff Haynes (percussion), and Gus Sebring (French horn).
