Product Description

Warlock: Orchestral Works

Peter Warlock, pseudonym of Philip Heseltine, was born in London in 1894 and became a friend and protégé of Frederick Delius. He published books and essays under his family name, Heseltine. The pseudonym Peter Warlock was reserved for the publication of his own compositions, mostly songs but also including orchestral pieces, choir, and chamber music -- for example, the Serenade for Strings, the Six Italian Dance Tunes, and the Six English Tunes, recorded here for the first time. Ross Pople studied at the Paris Conservatory and at age twenty-six was invited by Sir Colin Davis and Pierre Boulez to be principal cellist of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the youngest ever in the history of the orchestra. In 1980 he founded the London Festival Orchestra, whose numerous recordings have attracted positive reviews, and he has been seen often on the BBC.
