Musique Sans Paroles / Various
Despite struggles in the economy of Guinea and growing dissatisfaction with its government, the national record company, Syliphone, was going strong in 1976, as this album proves. It contains eight instrumental tracks by five of Guinea's finest ensembles, including Trio Papa Kouyaté (the guitarists also known as African Virtuoses), Quintette Guinéene (which backed Miriam Makeba during her long exile in Guinea), a group led by the extraordinary jazz saxophonist Momo Wandel, and the musicians of the world-famous Ballets Africaine. This is the fourth in Sterns Africa's new series of precisely restored facsimiles of classic Syliphone LPs, available only on high-quality vinyl.
