Rolan Orion along with many others live in fear of the Four Kingdoms with good reason. The four Kingdoms are home to many men and women that can do more than the average person, some can siphon life from one to another, others can heal from almost any wound while others even have control of the elements themselves. The Four Kingdoms have used their power to subjugate and enslave, forcing people like Rolan to live out in the untamed wilds to avoid life under their harsh rule. When Rolan eventually comes into contact with the Four Kingdoms it is catastrophic, forcing him to pick up a sword and attempt to fight off a legendary figure.
