"Girl with a Pearl Earring", based on the best selling novel by Tracy Chevalier, is about the painting of Vermeer's iconic portrait of the same name. The score is composed by Alexandre Desplat, who has scored over 50 films as well as projects for TV and theater for over 15 years. French born Desplat's film credits include "The Luzhin Defence" starring Emily Watson and John Turturro, "The Advocate" starring Colin Firth and Ian Holm, "Innocent Lies" starring Stephen Dorff plus the French films "Self Made Hero" and "Read My Lips". As well as conducting some of the world's top orchestras, he has also written many songs and lectures in film scoring at the Royal College of Music and at La Sorbonne in Paris.
