The Science Behind SkimDoctorThe SkimDoctor is a cleaner, more efficient product designed to attached to your skimmer basket and turbo-charge your existing pool skimmer. SkimDoctor uses several physics principles to create a vortex in your skimmer and increase surface water velocity. First, the slot in the inner tube of SkimDoctor is partially responsible for speeding up the flow of water, precisely the flow of surface water, in your skimmer. By forcing water to flow through SkimDoctor's narrow slot, SkimDoctor increases the top surface speed. In more technical terms, when water moves from a wider channel to a narrow channel, the volume of the water that moves a given distance in a given time period does not change, however, the speed of the water increases. This phenomenon is called the Bernoulli principle and explains why water flows quickly in white water rapids when rocks narrow the width of the water channel. In addition, the SkimDoctor tube itself forces water to flow around the tube in two directions, thereby narrowing the water channel, and creating a threefold Bernoulli effect. All debris enters through the top surface of the water. In situations where floating debris stands in the skimmer this can cause debris and leaves and other contaminates to stack up all the way to the front of skimmer leaving that debris to become stagnant and fall to the bottom of the pool. Because SkimDoctor increases surface water speed, debris is drawn more quickly into your basket, which can remove contaminants faster from the skimmer. It's important to remember that water velocity and cost savings are only some of the benefits of SkimDoctor. SkimDoctor also prevents you from having to put your hand through all the gunk to remove the basket. SkimDoctor also increases the storage capacity of your basket.
