The Nissan Motor Company has been making pickup trucks since 1934, beginning with the Model 13. In 1958, they started importing trucks into the USA under the name Datsun. They quickly established a foothold in the American market. After a number of model changes, the 720 was introduced in 1980. The model 720 was equipped with an overhead cam NAPS-Z 2.4 liter engine that developed 103 horsepower.
