It is thin enough to fit under any door, yet sturdy enough to use in any kind of upholstery project, yet pretty enough to use as any type of decor'. We have often heard the statement that these are too beautiful to be real. Rest assured, we use the most professional tanning processes. It is definitely a real calf skin. It can be taken to any Furrier or Taxidermist to be authenticated. The underarms and belly of ANY natural animal will have thin/no hair. This is natural and not a defect. We can do a lot of things at Black Swan, but we cannot alter the genetics of an animal. Please note that your hide will be natural and not a fake bleached starch white or color paints. Natural hides have a life expectancy of 20-25 years, whereas the bleached hides will have a much shorter life and are not stain resistant. Natural scars, scratches, patches and small bad spots are not considered defected items, especially in our lower cost items. The white area WILL NOT BE A STARCH WHITE! Although the product pictured is a sample picture, we have matched it as close as possible. Just remember, Nature makes every hide unique. There are no two exactly alike.
