PVF (polyvinyl flourocarbon) strings look the same as nylon, but are heavier and stronger, and for a given pitch are about 10% thinner than nylon. As a result they are more brilliant and powerful. This property is essential in bringing the modern high-end Turkish concert ouds (which have powerful bass and mid-range) into balance. PVF trebles are the trebles preferred by the top Turkish classical players like Necati Çelik and Yurdal Turkcan, and the top oud makers like Musafa Çopcuoğlu, Faruk Turunz and Ramazan Calay. They have also become popular among Arabic musicians. However, no other US-based string suppliers are making them available at this time.
