Frost hoped to contribute towards improving the efficiency of a destroyer squadron.</b> <br /> <br />From leaving a dock to towing a large ship, manoeuvring in narrow waters to dealing with field ice, this classic of naval warfare describes the key challenges that a destroyer might face. <br /> <br />In an expert fashion Frost sets out methods that a captain may employ to overcome these, noting the difference between doing so in perfect and imperfect conditions, and the need for individual judgement. <br /> <br />Widely read by experienced mariners and landsmen alike when it first appeared in 1930, ‘On a Destroyer’s Bridge has remained an important piece of maritime literature for historians and enthusiasts to this day. <br /> <br />This is the art of manoeuvring a destroyer, or the “Systematic application of knowledge and skill — acquired by study, observation, and experience — in effecting a desired object.” <br /> <br /><b>Holloway Halstead Frost</b> (1889-1935) was a U.S. Navy officer during the First World War and a recipient of the Navy Cross. Distinguished as a naval aviator and qualified for submarine command, his career was also literary, writing about numerous naval subjects such as history and operational analysis, including <em>We Build a Navy</em>.
