This is the time when the experience of the crusades was breaking up the old social order; when towns were growing and nations developing. The crusaders had brought back revolutionary new ideas about warfare; castle building; and chivalry; and the knightly class was still a power -- though this would change soon It is a time which gave rise to some of our best ideas and most stirring stories.
