When Joy Williams sings, "I wouldn't try and kid you / I'm just an ordinary girl" on "It's All Good" from her self-titled debut release, she captures the essence of what makes this first effort so pleasant. Unlike some of her teenage peers (Stacie Orrico, Rachael Lampa, Paige), Williams centers the music on her strong and sweet vocals. She trusts her talent in the same way that the massively successful Jaci Velasquez does, confidently forgoing the latest techno-dance samplings or choreographed moves. Her record is a fresh mixture of ballads, upbeat pop numbers, and moving testimonials. "Touch of Faith" is perhaps the finest track, with ample room for Williams to tastefully show off her talent. The closing "Better Than I" and "Do They See Jesus in Me" are ballads that demonstrate this Californian is blessed with a mature voice well beyond her years. <I>--Michael Lyttle</I>
