Journey Into Poland is a memoir about family and the search for my roots, but<br />it’s more than that. I wanted to introduce you to its enchanting beauty; its friendly,<br />obliging people; and sprinkle in some of its history one must know in order to understand<br />the Polish character.<br />Americans typically have little exposure to Warsaw and Krakow, and none to the<br />smaller villages and pure farmlands which are a world away from city life. I wanted<br />to share that flawless simplicity which I feel is — the real Poland, hidden from the<br />world and often from the descendants of those daring early adventurers who crossed<br />the ocean in life threatening conditions aboard overloaded boats.<br />The story of Polish immigrants doesn’t end with startling statistics or the intake<br />center at Ellis Island. It continues for decades, and sometimes we are lucky enough<br />to discover who we really are.
