Hawniyaz

The word Hawniyaz comes from Kurdish word meaning 'together' or 'for one another.' The Hawniyaz Ensemble originated during a spontaneous meeting at the Morgenland Festival Osnabruck. The ensemble is comprised of Kurdish singer Aynur, legendary kamancheh virtuoso Kayhan Kalhor, jazz pianist Salman Gambarov and tembur player Cemil Qocgiri. These four internationally renowned musicians create a unique sound that unites Kurdish and Persian music traditions, flavored with just a touch of the West. This magical osmosis reminds us how enriching the influence of migrating peoples can be for all the world's cultures.
