Jack Revill spent his childhood listening to his father's records, with Prince making a particular impression, but starting work in Glasgow's Rubadub Records store at the age of 14 was the root of an obsession with Detroit techno and electro, that would lead to his adoption of the Jackmaster moniker. He and his crew went on to form the Wireblock, Dress 2 Sweat and Stuff Records imprints, releasing tracks from the likes of Hudson Mohawke and Rustie. In 2010 these labels merged with others on the Glasgow scene to form the Numbers collective, named after Jack's long-running night of the same name. Numbers goes from strength to strength, with the label releasing cuts from Deadboy, Lazer Sword and Redinhno, whilst Numbers parties are thrown around the world, at fabric, Berghain and on a recent US tour. Jack's DJ style is quick, energetic and eclectic, favouring an exciting and direct approach over a polished or supertight style. A typical set could include anything; hip hop, house, dubstep, grime, UK funky, garage, disco or techno. This style has led to high demand for Jackmaster DJ sets. Yet, unusually these days, he has yet to produce any music of his own. Says Jack, "You shouldn't make music with the objective of furthering your career as a DJ, or to become famous. Too many people are doing that these days. I'll make music when I feel that I need to do it as a means of expressing myself." With FABRICLIVE 57 showcasing his DJ talent to the world, it could be some wait for that debut production!
