The ancestral home exerts a supernatural hold over Stasya from a young age, haunting her with strange memories from another time and place; memories that actually belong to her mother, Anastasya, who died giving birth to her.</p><p>As the memories become more vivid, Anastasya suddenly comes to life in spectral visions only Stasya can see. Stasya soon falls into mysterious trances and takes on her mother's persona, as though Anastasya's spirit had taken possession of her. Her father despairs over her physical and mental state, but is relieved when her symptoms wane over time and disappear altogether.</p><p>At twenty-five, Stasya's symptoms abruptly reappear when she befriends an enigmatic man from her mother's obscure past. Anastasya’s buried memories are intensified in his company, stirring a dormant desire for him, and reigniting a past love with tragic consequences. </p><p>Stasya quickly falls captive to Anastasya’s haunting presence within, and the two women slowly meld into one.
