Vastly under-rated and consistently over-looked and, Bobby Timmons is something of a forgotten man in jazz. This is more than a pity; its almost a crime, for at his best, he was one of the more exciting and revered players in a genre that had more than its fair share of great names. Bobbys best known work was recorded for the Riverside label, where he mainly worked with a trio (this particular album features Sam Jones on bass and Jimmy Cobb on drums, alongside Bobby on piano), although this was sometimes expanded to a quartet. There is, however, a tightness to his trio work, which this album showcases perfectly. Irrespective of whether it is original material or cover versions of standards, Bobby sprinkles an inventiveness to the proceedings, producing a soul jazz album that is to be much admired. Songs such as the title track Easy Does It, A Little Busy and Pretty Memory helped established his reputation as a writer, whilst his interpretations of Old Devil Moon and If You Could See Me Now show his versatility.
