• In short, the immobilizer prevents the engine from starting without a key; making the car less vulnerable to theft. In most cases, an immobilizer consists of two devices: a receiver installed in the vehicle and a transponder chip in the car key. The transponder chip emits a unique signal that it sends to the antenna which is communicated to the vehicle’s computer. If the computer recognizes the signal, then it allows the vehicle to start and continue running.
