<I>Colorful You</I> is alive with the confidence Miguel Migs has in his vibrant, emotional style, a chunky mix of sun-soaked melodies, Latin-flavored samples, and luxurious grooves. His model-quality good looks and the soulful, love-machine beats of records like <I>Nude Tempo 1</I> have already distinguished Migs from the avalanche of similar, downtempo-minded DJs. Despite having less of a rhythmic thrust and a greater emphasis on traditional song structure than his previous work, <I>Colorful You</I> should continue Migs's ascendancy to the coveted realm of such chill music superstars as Thievery Corporation and Everything but the Girl. Not that the record doesn't move; tracks like "Think It Over" and "Days of Color" (both with frequent Migs collaborator vocalist Lisa Shaw) are the sort of juiced-up head-nodders that get a scantily clad crowd good and steamy. Still, it's the balladry of "One Wish for Me" and "Breakin' It Down" that show off Migs's assured touch with vinyl as well as his talent for picking out great hooks. <I>--Matthew Cooke</I>
