Barium Exotic Metal 99.9% Pure 1 Gram for Element Collection
To many barium will sound vaguely familiar but, like calcium, few will know that it's actually every bit a metal as iron or gold. This metal has a particularly voracious appetite for oxygen. So much so that its only commercial usefulness in pure form is to mop up errant oxygen atoms where they're unwelcome like vacuum tubes and similar environments or devices where plain breathable air spells bad news.<p> Due to the extreme ease with which it forms oxides, barium is quite possibly THE most difficult element to maintain in a shiny, polished state like normal metals can. Short of an atmosphere that has been fastidiously purged of all traces of oxygen - like our argon-filled ampules in the 50mm cubes section - barium is best stored in oil to avoid deterioration though a thin surface of oxides is inevitable. Ships in vacuum-sealed ampule with mineral oil.
