Andres Segovia Archive: Spanish Composers
With the phrase Andrés Segovia Archive, this album refers specifically to the collection of some three or four-dozen pieces recovered by Angelo Gilardino on May 7, 2001 at Segovia s home in Spain. These pieces were dedicated to Segovia or commissioned by him, involving composers from eight countries. Edizione Musicale Bèrben subsequently published them as The Segovia Archive Series. Roberto Moronn Pérez researched these newly recovered works and found some pieces had never been recorded, and those that had were handicapped by poor visibility in the marketplace and limited distribution. This realization sparked the thought that here was an opportunity: a series of recordings, organized around the nationalities of the composers. The Spanish composers recorded here are the first in the series, to be followed by an album of the French composers.
