The original publication was a 43 page booklet containing two speeches delivered at Bethany College by Cochran (an attorney and historical novelist of Disciples of Christ background) and Garrett (a professor, church historian, and editor of Church of Christ background), along with a foreword by then president of the college, Perry Gresham.
