Air Force Space Command Headquartered at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado, the Air Force Space Command (AFSC) was created in 1982 to expand the frontiers of America's military technology. A vital combat support force, the AFSC is also a major component of America's homeland security network. Comprised of approximately 37,200 military and civilian personnel, the AFSC launches and tracks military satellites, relays critical navigation and communications information to forces in combat, and operates the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) system of the United States, a vital part of the nation's defense against weapons of mass destruction. As part of its mission to advance the integration of aerospace technology and military design, the Air Force Space Command directly oversees the Space Warfare Center and the Space and Missile Systems Center. This coin is dedicated to the Air Force Space Command and its mission of implementing the most advanced technology in the defense of America. The obverse contains the emblem of the Air Force Space Command. The reverse bears the official symbol of the U.S. Air Force.  Minted in a brass alloy, this coin is imbued with colorful enamel on both sides. Each coin comes packaged with a detailed header card that describes the mission and history of the Air Force Space Command.
