Homage to the remarkable French soprano Mady Mesplé, these four CDs comprise opera, operetta, song and contemporary music in many of her most celebrated roles, such as Lucia di Lammermoor, Lakmé (the Flower Duet was her most famous success) or Olympia (Les Contes d'Hoffmann). Mady Mesplé was especially popular in her native France, where her numerous television appearances introduced a wider public to opera, but her international career also brought her acclaim in the USA, for instance with appearances at the Met and the Chicago Lyric Opera, in the UK, where she performed at the Edinburgh Festival and Wigmore Hall, at Moscow’s Bolshoi, and in the opera houses of French-speaking Switzerland and Belgium.
